India – Prithvi Multi-Art Centre launches new gallery with Sangeeta Gupta’s Art Show

Prithvi Fine Art & Cultural Centre opened its new gallery in Safdarjung Enclave, New Delhi, with an inaugural solo art exhibition of the works of veteran artist Sangeeta Gupta, who is also the force behind PrithviThe theme of the exhibition, titled ‘Neel – The mysteries of Blue’, displayed the artworks painted in shades of blue. The opening ceremony was initiated with a symbolic lighting of the lamp by Ambassador of Venezuela, H.E.Augusto Montiel and his artist wife Mrs Mili, Mr K.L.Ganju, Consul General (Hony.) of the Republic of Union of the Comoros. The launch was well attended by the glitterati of Delhi, members of the artist fraternity, writers, publishers et.al.

The multi-talented Sangeeta Gupta is a poet, writer, filmmaker, and a painter. Speaking about her inspiration for her abstract paintings, she said, “It is my endeavor to blend two or more elements to create harmony. Painting is my way to meditate and discover my own self. When I draw or paint I am in search of my own self. For me it is a way of re-inventing my identity. For me it is an act of faith, where I converse with the universe.” The new venue of Prithvi is envisioned to be a resource centre with an exhibition gallery, creative spaces for book launches, readings and discussions, an artist residency to exchange cultures of the world.

Prithvi started its journey in 2011 by organising art camps and artists exchange programmes, especially with Greece in 2014-15. Prithvi also organised a Spring festival of 3 days in 2014 in collaboration with Alliance’s Francaise du Delhi. It supports young art students to pursue fine art education. It has produced 7 documentary films and has now ventured into publishing books. Sangeeta herself has held 32 solo shows, authored 14 books and made 7 documentary films. She lives and works in Delhi.  Her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Bharat Bhavan Museum Bhopal, Museum of Sacred Art Belgium and Macedonian Museum of Contemporary Art, Thessaloniki Greece. Her works have been represented at the India Art Fair New Delhi in 2011, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

She says: “To me abstract art is a means to reach the non-objective experiences that help shape the inner life. It is a witness to the fact that man’s spiritual needs do not disappear even in times engulfed by gross materialism”
